Briarwood Christian made clutch plays to come back from a two-touchdown deficit and defeat Wenonah 15-14 Friday night in Class 5A, Region 5 play.

With the win, the Lions (2-1) moved into a tie with Fairfield for the lead in the region at 2-0 ahead of next week’s meeting.

The win on Friday night, though, seemed in doubt early. Wenonah jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead thanks to a pair of JaDarius Redwine touchdowns. He caught a 5-yard scoring pass from Carlos Rogers and returned a William Gray interception 57 yards for a touchdown.

Briarwood began its comeback in the third quarter when Kolby Kwarcinski hauled in a 27-yard touchdown pass from J.R. Tran-Reno. A 70-yard completion from Tran-Reno to Gray on a trick play set the Lions up for the go-ahead score. Gray found the end zone from a yard out and then Carson Eddy threw the game-winning 2-point conversion pass to Barrett Tindall.    Complete article
