Multiple Teams · Wenonah girls basketball ranked among nation’s best

A pair of national services ranks Class 5A two-time defending girls champion Wenonah among the best in the nation.

The Dragons (12-0) are ranked as the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 5A No. 1 team while they’re No. 22 nationally in the MaxPreps computer rankings and No. 10 in USA Today’s South Regional rankings.

Undefeated Wenonah, riding a 20-game winning streak dating back to last season, has been led by Alexus Dye’s 16.4 points and 6.5 rebounds a game while last year’s Class 5A Player of the Year and Mississippi signee Kaitlyn Rodgers adds 11.9 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks a game.


The Dragons are one of four girls teams ranked in MaxPreps top 100. Charles Henderson is No. 50, Hazel Green is No. 57 and LeFlore is No. 58.

ASWA ranks Class 5A Charles Henderson No. 3 while Class 7A Hazel Green is No. 1 and Class 6A LeFlore is No. 10.

In boys rankings, Faith Academy (ASWA Class 5A No. 3) is No. 30 followed by Bessemer City (ASWA Class 6A No. 3) at No. 44 and No. 83 Murphy (ASWA Class 7A No. 7)  Complete article
