Multiple Teams · Wenonah girls stay undefeated in ASWA basketball rankings

Class 5A two-time defending girls champion Wenonah is one of two undefeated No. 1 teams in this week’s Alabama Sports Writers Association basketball rankings.

The Dragons (20-0) along with AISA top-ranked Springwood (21-0) were impressive over the holiday break, each winning tournaments with notable competition.

There were no changes among No. 1 teams in girls rankings with Cass 7A Hazel Green, Class 6A Homewood, Class 4A Deshler, Class 3A Madison Academy, Class 2A Red Bay and Class 1A Keith all retaining the top spot along with Wenonah and Springwood.

On the boys side there are three new No. 1 teams. Class 5A Sumter Central took over the top spot from J.O. Johnson while Class 2A Vincent replaced LaFayette and AISA Restoration Academy took the No. 1 ranking from Tuscaloosa Academy.

Class 7A Spain Park, Class 6A Carver-Montgomery, Class 4A Westminster Christian, Class 3A Madison Academy and Class 1A Sacred Heart stayed atop the rankings.

Wenonah is the only state team ranked among the top 25 nationally. The Dragons are No. 24 in MaxPreps Xcellent 25 writers poll and No. 35 in the computer rankings after winning the Naples (Fla.) Holiday Shootout.   Complete article
