Wenonah Girls 73 – Talladega 34

Wenonah’s game plan is simple, but effective: pressure, pressure and more pressure. The Class 5A top-ranked Dragons pressured Talladega early and often on Thursday at the Bill Harris Arena at the Birmingham CrossPlex to an easy 73-34 victory in state semifinal action. Talladega ended with 30 turnovers and the Dragons scored 45 points off those.

AHSAA postpones Wednesday’s state semifinals

The Alabama High School Athletic Association has postponed Wednesday’s schedule slate of state semifinal games due to expected winter weather. Wenonah Girls 53 – Ramsay 43

The game plan for both Wenonah and Ramsay centered around Kaitlyn Rodgers – the Rams to deny the junior center the ball and Wenonah to make sure she had it. The No. 1 Dragons did a better job at their game than Ramsay did and wound up with their third-straight Class 5A Northwest Regional title

Wenonah Girls 65 – Lawrence Co 63 (OT)

They were sluggish, they were sloppy, their defense was porous and they were taken out of their game plan. And still, No. 1 Wenonah survived to play another day – converting enough pressure down the stretch into points and wearing down upset-minded Lawrence County for a 65-63 overtime win at the Class 5A Northwest Regional

Wenonah Girls 70 – Parker 37

Faith Reynolds and Alexus Dye each scored 19 points, pacing top-ranked Wenonah to a 70-37 win over Parker in the sub-regionals of the Class 5A tournament. Reynolds also had seven assists and seven steals for the top-ranked Dragons (28-3), who used a 22-0 scoring run in the second quarter to build a 38-9 halftime lead.

Wenonah Girls 55 – Ramsay 38

Class 5A No. 1 Wenonah had little difficulty in the Area 9 championship game, defeating Ramsay, 55-38. Jayla Morrow led the Dragons (27-3) with 13 points and four steals, while Faith Reynolds scored 12 points and Alexus Dye added 10. Morrow was named MVP of the tournament. Courtney Lee led the Rams with 14 points.

Wenonah Boys 50 – Ramsay 60

Justin Wiley scored 15 points to lead Class 5A No. 5 Ramsay over visiting Wenonah 60-50 in the first round of the Area 9 tournament. Jordan Millsap also added 12 points for the Rams (25-5), who jumped out to a 17-3 first quarter lead, which they never relinquished. Kameron Hardrick led Wenonah and all scorers

Wenonah Girls 88 – Fairfield 34

Class 5A No. 1 Wenonah punctuated a dominating night by scoring 35 points in the second quarter as the host Dragons downed Fairfield, 88-34 in the Area 9 tournament semifinals. Kaitlyn Rodgers finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds for Wenonah (26-3), which will play Ramsay in Friday’s championship round. Faith Reynolds scored 16 points
